Terms of service

Last updated: October 3, 2026

About these terms

These terms govern the use of Dictero (www.dictero.com), a service run by Jixon, Brossard, Québec, Canada. By creating an account or using Dictero, you accept them. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

Contact: contact@dictero.com.

The service

Dictero turns a list of words, sentences or a text into a dictation read aloud: you type the list or photograph it, Dictero can write sentences around the words, then records them in a voice, and a child listens and writes. The answers can be hidden behind a password.

Your account

  • You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. Children use Dictero through the dictations an adult prepares for them.
  • Give a valid e-mail address and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what is done with your account.
  • Tell us at contact@dictero.com if you think someone else is using your account.

Credits

  • Recording the voices of a dictation uses credits. The price depends on the length of the text and is shown before the recording starts. Credits are spent once, just before the recording. A line whose voice already exists (from another dictation) costs the same as a new one.
  • If you do not have enough credits for a whole dictation, you can make it with the first lines your credits cover: the others wait in the dictation, locked, until you unlock them, at the same price.
  • Reading a photo and writing sentences are free, within reasonable limits.
  • If a recording is stopped, it resumes without spending credits again; if you cancel it, the credits of the lines not yet recorded are given back.
  • Credits come from the welcome gift, from Dictero or from a purchase. They cannot be exchanged for money or transferred to someone else, and they disappear if your account is deleted.
  • You can buy credits in packs. The price, in the currency shown, includes any tax that applies and is shown before you pay. You pay once, through our payment provider Stripe; nothing renews and no card is saved. The credits are added to your account as soon as the payment is accepted.
  • Because the credits are available immediately, you ask for the service to start right away and, where the law allows, you can no longer withdraw from the purchase once they are added. If a payment went wrong, or you bought credits by mistake and have not used them, write to contact@dictero.com within 30 days: we will refund the unused credits of that purchase.

Your content

  • The lists, texts and titles you add stay yours. You allow us to store, process and transform them (including through our AI provider) and to create the recordings, only to provide Dictero.
  • You also allow us to keep the generated sentences and recordings in a shared library and reuse them for other dictations containing the same words. This library contains no information about you.
  • Only use content you have the right to use, and do not add personal information about other people, especially children.

Content made by AI

Sentences, photo reading and voices are produced by artificial intelligence. They are usually right but can contain mistakes (a wrong word, an awkward sentence, a pronunciation). Check a dictation before giving it to a child. Dictero is a practice tool and does not replace a teacher.

Shared links

A dictation can be shared with its link. Only someone signed in to a Dictero account can open and listen to it: a person who receives the link without an account is asked to create one (free) or to sign in. The password, if you set one, only protects the answers. Share links with people you trust.

Acceptable use

Do not use Dictero to:

  • add illegal, hateful, violent or sexual content, or content unsuitable for children;
  • break the law or other people's rights;
  • get around the credits or the usage limits, or overload the service;
  • access other accounts, copy the service by automated means or try to break its security.

We may remove content or suspend an account that breaks these rules.

Availability

We work to keep Dictero available and your dictations safe, but the service may be interrupted for maintenance or because of a problem, and it may change over time. Keep your own copy of anything important.

Liability

Dictero is provided as it is. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect damage, or for damage caused by misuse of the service or by content you add. Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have as a consumer or a liability that the law does not allow us to limit.

Ending the service

You can stop using Dictero at any time and ask us to delete your account by writing to contact@dictero.com. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, after telling you why when possible.

Changes, law and disputes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version, and we will tell you before an important change applies. If you keep using Dictero afterwards, the new terms apply.

These terms are governed by the laws of the province of Quebec and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the place where you live, including the Quebec Consumer Protection Act for Quebec residents and the consumer law of your country in the European Union. In case of disagreement, write to us first at contact@dictero.com so we can look for a solution together. Failing that, the courts of the district of Longueuil (Quebec) will decide, unless the law gives you the right to go to the courts where you live.
